Chatter bench installed at Chineham Shopping

Chineham Shopping has unveiled a permanent ‘Chatter Bench’ to help encourage the local community to come together and chat! The bench has been launched in conjunction with Age Concern Hampshire, who work to support the ageing journey of older people in the county. Kim Stone, Community Engagement Officer at Age Concern Hampshire commented: ‘’We are thrilled to be involved in supporting Chineham Shopping’s Chatter bench. One of our main aims within Basingstoke is to provide older people with an opportunity for social engagement through our social groups and activities. The bench will hopefully provide a fantastic space for those wanting to connect with the local community. We hope that it brings joy to many older people and all other members of the community.’

Chris Carter, Centre Manager at Chineham Shopping, added: ‘We installed a Chatter bench as part of our Summer Garden last year and it was so popular that we decided to install a more permanent bench this year. As the sign next to the bench states: ‘Sit here if you are happy for someone to stop and say hello!’.  We’re hoping to help support the local community in making new connections and helping to tackle loneliness at the same time.’
